Arcadion
Arcadion
Arcadion is a Daemon. A pretty powerful one at that. He has a sarcastic personality, and loves black humor. He is a key player in Ultima VII and Ultima VII/2, as he is bound in The Black Sword.

Arcadion was bound by Erethian into a mirror over 200 years before Ultima VII. That of course didn't made him happy. When the Avatar arrived on the Isle of Fire, he was already pretty pissed, especially when he thought that the Dragon Dracothraxus has stolen his only way out of his prison. He offered the Avatar help, if he/she freed him with the Ether Gem. When the Avatar retrieved it, Arcadion begged him/her to smash the mirror with it. However, Arcadion was in for a disappointment, as the Gem only transfered him to a more mobile prison, making the Avatar his new master. Accepting his new servitude in resignation, he bonded with the Black Sword on request, giving it powers, getting revenge at Dracothraxus in the end by slaughtering her.

He wasn't seen in Ultima Underworld II, but in Ultima VII/2, he was separated from the Avatar by a teleport storm. When they were back together, Arcadion denied his services, having grown quite rebellious. In the Mountains of Freedom, the Avatar had no choice. To defeat Lorthondo, he/she had to free Arcadion. Interesting enough, Arcadion seemed to have some honor, as he destroyed the mage by blowing him to pieces, but left the Avatar in peace.

Arcadion was met again in Ultima VIII on Pagan in the Obsidian Fortress. He was one of the Sorcerers, and was the test instructor for that part of the exam. But he had no memory of all the events surrounding him and the Avatar. Either he had forgotten it all, or these events happened, thanks to a different time-stream, before he came to Britannia.

When Avatar later visits the Obsidian Fortress, Arcadion was gone from his room. Either he had remembered his past or had an idea to go visit the world Avatar had mentioned coming from.

[edit] Trivia

  • In the Dialogue Patch for Ultima IX, the Daemon in Moonglow becomes Arcadion.
