The Compendium comes with Ultima VI. It is 48 pages long. In-game, Lord British is the orginator of the book, having dictated it to the scribe Moebius of the Lycaeum, and it is also used it as a part of the copy protection. In real-life, Greg Malone has written the book.

It is important to remember that when the book is written, Britannia is at war with the Gargoyles, this is, why they aren't seen in a good light in it. Also some of Lord British's points of view flow into a few things slightly. It is well written and very detailled and versataile.
