Ferryman, from Ultima VII
The Ferryman was summoned by Horance when he called the dead of Skara Brae some time after Ultima VI. Since then, he would stay at the Ferry Station at the Misty Channel, to bring people from and to Skara Brae for a small fee.
The Avatar met him in Ultima VII, and used his services. However, the Ferryman was unable to make the final sacrifice, to his sadness; the magics that summoned him bound him to Britannia as well. He would remain there until the end of time, indestructible and unable to find peace.
At least in the newly-rebuilt city of Skara Brae, he would have much company to brighten up his former lonely existence.
- Even the Armageddon spell won't destroy the Ferryman, and he seems not even to notice as his dialogue does not change.
- The Ferryman looks like the Grim Reaper, but his role is more like that of the mythological character, Charon.
- Fittingly, the Ferryman carries the Death Scythe as a weapon.
- In the game code, the Ferryman is actually not an NPC, but an object. Therefore he has no inventory, does not move, and cannot be killed.
