Using a Pickaxe or Shovel a Miner can dig out Ore, which in turn can be used to produce metal Ingots. Beginning Miners will only be able to harvest plain iron, but with practise, they can extract types that come with special properties. These are used by blacksmiths and tinkers for crafting purposes.

Whenever an ore vein refreshes after being harvested from, there is a slight chance it will change resource type. For example, a mountainside that yielded Valorite today might give plain iron tomorrow, and vice versa.

Aside from Mining, ore can also be found as loot on these creatures:

  • Ant Lion
  • Agapite Elemental
  • Copper Elemental
  • Dull Copper Elemental
  • Earth Elemental
  • Golden Elemental
  • Shadow Iron Elemental
  • Stone Gargoyle
  • Valorite Elemental
  • Verite Elemental

Smelting

Before ore can be used in crafting it must be smelted by using it on a forge. There are four types of ore which produce varying amounts of ingots.

The coloured ore types require high levels of the Mining skill to refine. The skill needed is equal to the Mining skill required to find the ore, as listed in the table below.

Unlike the conversion of hides or logs, a skill check is performed at the refining stage - if failed, no ingots are produced and the ore pile is instead halved. When smelting high level ore such as valorite, it is best to separate large piles into smaller ones to prevent large losses.

Weight Ingots
Ore1 2 Stones 0.5
Ore2 7 Stones 1
Ore3 7 Stones 1
Ore4 12 Stones 2

The following table shows the smelting success rates for each ore at different Skill levels (note that skills above 100 can be achieved using Mining Gloves):

Metal Types

Shields receive the same bonuses from colored ingots as armor. You require the same Blacksmithy/Tinkering skill level to work the ingots as the skill level required to Mine them.
