Lost Lake is situated deep within a mountain range west of Britain, and has long been difficult to reach. Its waters serve as the source of the Lost River, which empties onto the shores of western Britannia, north of Skara Brae. Along its shores lies the entrance to the dungeon Shame.
Lost Lake has changed little throughout the history of Britannia, remaining isolated. From Ultima IV to Ultima VI it could only be reached through a boat; however, in Ultima VII, the shores of Lost Lake could be accessed by foot, as the Lost River had become too narrow for boat travel. The magic carpet was found along its northern coast in Ultima VII, just to the west of the entrance to Shame. By the time of Ultima IX, the lake had completely disappeared.
