Mordra
Mordra
Mordra, from Ultima VII
Species: Human
Appearances
Ultima VII
Location: Skara Brae

Mordra is the dead healer of Skara Brae in Ultima VII, where she is essential help for the Avatar. She is far more than she appears at first, because she actually is from Pagan, and the grandmother of Vardion, the First Acolyte of the Sorcerers.

Her history is a bit difficult to reconstruct. Some time after Ultima VI, Mordra and her brother Rinaldo left Pagan and entered Britannia, probably because they were unhappy with their lives there. Mordra became the healer in Skara Brae, but visited Vardion still from time to time, to tell him of Britannia. When Horance became a threat, it was her who found the mixture to destroy him. However, the mayor gave the wrong quantities to Caine, resulting in her and all of Skara Brae dying in a huge fire.

In Ultima VII, she was a ghost, but was able to communicate with the Avatar even without the Seance spell, and was the only one remembering the Dark Service of Horance at midnight. She gave the hero much good advice about the inhabitants and the events and, when asked, the correct formula. The Liche was destroyed, but Mordra was unable to do the final sacrifice, since her powers from Pagan would have caused huge destruction then. With the Well of Souls destroyed, her soul escaped to the void, finally at peace.

Trivia[]

  • Her full name, as seen in her book Artifacts of Darkness, is Mordra Morgaelin. Morgaelin is the only known isle in Pagan.
  • She remarks that her late brother, Rinaldo, sat on the High Court in Yew when he was alive.
  • Vardion speaks of Mordra in Ultima VIII, describing her as a powerful mage who mysteriously vanished. The Avatar does not tell him of her fate.
