A well of water in Castle Britannia can, oddly enough, be spoken to during the time of Ultima IV. A shepherdess named Shawn watches over the water, but she does not appear to know of its sentience.
Chuckles informed the Stranger that the water could converse and that it should be asked about the altars. When asked, it revealed that there are three altar rooms which connect the bottom levels of all eight dungeons and, that if the correct colors of stones were used in the altars, a key of three parts could be gained.
