Honesty is one of the Eight Virtues.

Honesty, founded on the principle of Truth, is scrupulous respect for truth- the willingness never to deceive oneself or another. The pursuit of truthfulness, with respect to oneself and with respect to other beings. Honesty and the quest for truth is foremost to the mages of Moonglow, in fact, they abide no dishonesty and have no room for those who do.

The Shrine of Honesty is situated on Dagger Isle, north of Verity Isle.

[edit] Interesting facts

  • Lord British demanding Honesty from the mages of Moon, who relied heavily on illusions and trickery, and thus disliked a honest life, was one of the main reasons for the emigration to the Serpent Isle.
  • The Theurgists of Pagan also follow the path of Truth and Honesty, despite being under the rule of the Titan of Air, Stratos. (an interesting fact, isn't it?) They even have a spell that forces the truth out.

[edit] Blackthorn's law

During Blackthorn's tyranny, Honesty was turned into a law: "Thou shalt not lie, or thou shalt lose thy tongue."

[edit] Honesty in Ultima IV

Meditating at the Shrine of Honesty will give these insights;

  • "Take not the gold of others found in towns and castles for yours it is not!"
  • "Cheat not the merchants and peddlers for tis an evil thing to do!"

[edit] Honesty in Ultima V

"'Tis now thy sacred Quest to go unto the Codex and learn the failing of Dishonesty!"

"A dishonest life brings unto thee temporary gain, but forsakes the permanent."

[edit] Honesty in Ultima VI

"Whatsoever things are true... Whatsoever things are honest... If there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things."
