Installation Instructions

  • Obtain Dungeon Siege (DS) , or Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna (LoA). NOTE: Dungeon Siege II WILL NOT WORK. ALSO NOTE: No one here can help you obtain Dungeon Siege, except to say to check e-bay or the bargain area of your favorite software store, if you take my meaning..


  • Install Dungeon Siege. If you install it to somewhere other than the default location, remember where that is- you may need to help Lazarus find it later. I suggest you just put it in the default location.


  • If you are using Dungeon Siege, obtain the 1.1 patch from Microsoft's website here: http://www.microsoft.com/games/dungeonsiege/8.asp . Make sure you grab the right patch for your localised area. If you are using LoA, you do not need this patch.


  • Try running Dungeon Siege, to make sure it works by itself. Knowing this will help with troubleshooting later on, if necessary.


  • Download Lazarus from whichever mirror you prefer. The list is here: http://www.u5lazarus.com/ , towards the bottom of the page.


  • While you are on that same page, grab the Lazarus 1.1a patch (towards the top of the page). NOTE: This is -not- the same as the Dungeon Siege patch.


  • Install Lazarus by running the executable. If you are getting help with the install, I recommend just using all the defaults- it will make your life easier in the long run (which is C:\Lazarus, by the way).


  • Install the Lazarus 1.1a patch by unzipping the files to C:\Lazarus\Resources . No, you do not need to unzip the readme file, if you know what you are doing.



  • In your Start Menu, under 'Programs', there is now a folder called 'Lazarus'. Inside there are three items of interest. One is the Cloth Map, one is the Manual (read it) and one is U5:Lazarus; it runs the game. No, really- read the manual.


  • When you get to the options screen, the -first- thing you -need- to do is click Options then make sure you are on the Video tab. Change your Screen Resolution to AT LEAST 1024x768. You will run into problems during character creation if you do not do this. Click OK


  • Enjoy Lazarus.
