Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933)
Louis Tiffany, son of renowned jeweler Charles L. Tiffany, began as a painter in oil and water colors, but eventually found his true calling in the design of decorative objects made of iridescent "favrile" or Tiffany glass. He also worked extensively as an interior designer, co-founding one of the leading design consortia in the United States. Among his noteworthy interiors were the White House and the home of Samuel Clemens (see "Mark Twain," pg. 23).
