Malifora, from Ultima V (NES)
In Ultima V, she was a valuable source of information to the Avatar, imparting to the hero the mantra of Honesty and the Word of Power which would open Dungeon Deceit. She also could scry the location of Blackthorn's keep, achieve brief visions of the shards of the Gem of Immortality, and was able to divine that the hero would have need of Lord British's Crown Jewels. If the Avatar asked Malifora about the Shadowlords, she claimed their magic to be so powerful that she could not see beyond their dark veil.
After her divination, she asked the Avatar for a donation of fifteen pieces of gold in return for her aid.
Ultima V: LazarusEdit
In Ultima V: Lazarus, Malifora lives on the outskirts of Moonglow in disguise. Malifora is a former member of the Great Council who went into hiding with her son Malik as soon as the troubles with Blackthorn started. The two were forced to abandon their second home in Britain, which was mostly used when there were Great Council meetings, as well as their usual home in Moonglow, in an attempt to achieve anonymity. Neither of them are happy with this move since they both left friends behind. Malifora has returned to her 'natural calling' as a gypsy and turned to living in a brightly painted wagon outside Moonglow. She is not free with her name, and is referred to by the people of Moonglow only as the Gypsy. She is often consulted for fortune telling. She also does some glassblowing on the side, and makes a variety of small trinkets and ornaments, both cheap and expensive, which have become somewhat popular in Moonglow.
Malifora is a strong supporter of the Resistance, but does not speak of it. She spends most of her time in her house working with glass or consulting with those who seek their futures. She will 'crystal gaze' for the Avatar on several topics.
- The Avatar needs Malifora's aid to enter the astronomy tower where Zachariah is.
- Malifora lost a prized piece of work, the Crystal Tear, which she may ask the Avatar to keep an eye out for.
- In the original Ultima V, Malifora is described as an "old, strangely familiar gypsy", indicating that she is possibly the same gypsy from the game's character creation.
